Grand Canyon

This year is turning out to be an exceptional year for outing. After the lifetime experience of Alaskan Mountain, after conquering the highest peak of American mainland - Mt. Whitney, I got a chance to get along with a group of adventure enthusiasts to backpack in Grand Canyon. Himanshu, Saumc, Nikhil, Megha, Vivek and me set out to conquer the depths of Colorado river.
The first glimpse of the Grand Canyon makes you realize, the canyon is indeed grand. Every where you look, the scale deceives you. One might almost not notice the two miniature cognitive beings sitting atop a precipice, awing at the grandeur of the canyon.

Butte

Another attempt to capture the scale. Note the trails switchbacking on the butte

Saumc

Going down the South Kaibab trail, we lost about 5000ft in seven miles

Vicks

A photography enthusiast, shooting another photography enthusiast.

Asses

Given the steep access to the base of the canyon, many people choose to hitch a ride on these beasts

The inner canyon

First clear glimpse of the Colorado river.

Colorado River

Another view of the Colorado river.

Phantom Ranch

This is where the Americans score. There is full service hotel at the bottom of the canyon. They employ horses to get stuff in and out of the canyon.

Bridge on river Colorado

Although this suspended bridge was not very wobbly, it still reminded me of the Laxman Jhula at Rishikesh.

Rafts

Colorado river is also a hot spot for rafting.
